With the current situation, working from home now involves a lot of sitting on a dining room chair or a home office chair in front of a computer or a tablet. But did you know that sitting down for a long time puts a lot of stress on your spine? To prevent any lower back problems, it is important to use an ergonomic chair, intended to reduce discomfort and fatigue while also maximizing productivity. An ergonomic chair will support not only your lower back but also will help you maintain a good posture. But what if you do not have an ergonomic chair at home? Here are some tips to help you protect your spine while sitting on a home or home office chair: 1. The backrest should support the curve of your spine and provide good lumbar support. 2. The seat should be comfortable and allow your feet to rest flat on the floor. 3. The armrests of your chair should be soft, allow your shoulders to relax and your elbows to stay close to your body. 4. The chair should have a leg base with casters that allow easy movement along the floor. Choosing the right chair can help prevent low back pain and neck pain associated with desk jobs. Always remember to take breaks. For every 50 minutes of sitting at your desk, take a 10 minutes are also recommended. The following warning signs should not be ignored: • Shoulder, neck and lower back pain • Headaches • Numbness, tingling or weakness in the arm, hands, wrists or legs If you experience any discomfort from your current chair, do not hesitate to call Clinique Physio Go to prevent serious injuries.
